Networking
This is an area we have been involved in from the beginning, and have seen much advancement in over the years. Many large companies have replaced their “Main Frame” and “Mini Computer” infrastructure in favor of networking. There are many type of networks and network topologies, the most popular being Ethernet over copper cable or wireless. Within this narrow range there are many standards and issues to consider. Altrim Systems would be pleased to review your current network infrastructure and recommend and install improvements, or setup a new network for your business. Some of the issues we consider are:
 | The use to which the network is to be put
|
 | Do you require Data, Web, FTP, File, Antivirus, etc. Servers
|
 | What connectivity and vulnerability to the Internet will there be
|
 | What backup procedures are in place, including any disaster recovery plan
|
 | What combination of wired and wireless network is required
|
 | Is remote (off site) communications required
|
 | The speed of the internal network and the Internet connection
|
 | Internal and External Security required
|

High Speed Internet
With growth and maturity of the Internet, it has become extremely stable, and an indispensable tool for business. We through an affiliate company can provide “Digital Subscriber Line” (DSL) service to corporate clients at very competitive rates. Even businesses that cannot get “Bell” service due to the distance from the Bell Switching Office (CO) can possibly be serviced by us.
Our services include setting up the Internet, all necessary routers and security devices, and secure connectivity between remote locations. This encompasses different methods of communications such as Terminal Services (TS), Citrix, Virtual Private Networking (VPN), etc.
Accounting Solutions
Phillip Tankel, a principal at Altrim Systems is primarily involved with setting up, training and supporting clients in the use of accounting software, primarily “Business Vision”. Phillip with our team of consultants not only supports these installations, but also finds innovative ways of “customizing” the application to better suite the way our clients’ do business. This includes producing custom reports using tools such as “Crystal Reports” and Spreadsheet Software.
Other Accounting applications we can supply and support, either internally or through the use of other consultants, are MYOB, Simply Accounting, AccPac and Accountmate.
Hardware and Software
Purchasing through the distribution channel we are able to provide almost any hardware or software required by our clients at very competitive prices. We stock very little and purchase almost all our requirements from client orders. Most regular items can be delivered the next business day. Network Security
Probably the hottest topic in IT today, network and Internet security gets more press than any other single area of Information Technology. These reasons are easy to understand; businesses today have to have the ability to communicate securely over the Internet to stay competitive. Do you know any business that does not rely on Inter Office communications, e-mail communications or remote communications? Not many we’ll bet. With the pervasive use of the Internet and most people using Microsoft products and operating systems (with a large number also starting to use Linux), more unsavory characters are writing viruses and for and hacking into systems, and this only the tip of the iceberg.
The most common area of vulnerability is from inside the organization; strong authentication should be in place, as well as documented rules for Information Access. Altrim Systems offers a security audit undertaken with a view to minimizing various holes in security and helping to make the organization compliant with current practices and legislation. A sample of questions regarding Security and Recovery Procedures are as follows:
